Black eyed peas dal (Lobia dal)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup lobia or black eyed peas (washed and pressure cooked with 2 cups of water and an inch of chopped ginger for 3 whistles)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • pinch of hing
  • 1/2 onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 green chillies chopped
  • 3/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3/4 tsp dhania powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • cilantro to garnish

Directions

  1. In a pan add oil.Once its hot add the hing ,chopped onions and 1/4 tsp salt. Saute till brownish red. Then add the turmeric ,ginger garlic paste and green chillied and fry till the raw smell goes away.

  2. Then add the chopped tomatoes,red chilli powder,garam masala and dhania powder.Cook till the oil separates. Then add the pressure cooked black eyes peas and water as required to thin it.Adjust the salt,garnish with cilantro and serve hot
