Baklava

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz) package of phyllo dough
  • 1 pound walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup honey

Directions

  1. to 350.

  2. Butter bottom and side of 9×13 inch pan.

  3. Chop nuts and toss with cinnamon, set aside.

  4. Unroll phyllo dough.

  5. Cut whole stack in half to fit pan.

  6. Cover phyllo with a damp cloth.

  7. Place 2 sheets of dough in pan, butter thoroughly.

  8. Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered.

  9. Sprinkle 2-3 Tbsp. of nut mixture on top.

  10. Top with 2 sheets of dough, butter, nuts, layering as you go.

  11. Top layer should be 6-8 sheets deep.

  12. Use a sharp knife cut into diamond or square shapes all the way to the bottom.

  13. Cut 4 long rows to make diagonal cuts.

  14. Bake about 50 minutes until golden crisp.

  15. Make sauce while Baklava is baking.

  16. Boil sugar, and water until sugar is melted.

  17. Add vanilla and honey, simmer 20 minutes.

  18. Remove Baklava from oven and immediately spoon sauce over it.

  19. Let cool.
