Hamburger Sandwich

(from Ryan77’s recipe box)

Categories: ground beef

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup of ketchup
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of sweet pickle relish
  • 2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard
  • 10 turns of the pepper grinder
  • 1 envelope of dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup of beef stock (try lower sodium here)
  • Chopped onion, chopped tomato and shredded lettuce, or optional toppings for garnish

Directions

  1. Cook ground beef in a medium size skillet over medium heat. Split the French bread in half lengthwise and brush cut side of bread with the melted butter; grill or toast in a skillet. Brown the ground beef until cooked through, breaking up to a fine crumble. While meat is browning, in a separate small bowl, combine the ketchup, sweet pickle, mustard and pepper. Add the onion soup mix to the ketchup mixture and stir together well.

  2. To the browned ground beef, stir in the beef stock and the ketchup mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until heated through well. Spread the meat mixture over the bottom half of the toasted French bread. Top with chopped onion, tomato and shredded lettuce, or other toppings as desired. Top with other half of the toasted French bread and cut into serving slices. Serves 4, or 2 really hungry adults.
