Ingredients

  • 10 to 12 oz. white baking pieces
  • 8 to 10 drops liquid red or green food color
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes

Directions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with foil.

  2. In a small saucepan, melt the baking pieces over medium-low heat. Or, place in a microwave-safe bowl and cook on 100% power for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.

  3. When nearly melted, remove from the heat or microwave; stir gently to melt.

  4. Spread melted baking piecess on prepared baking sheet, smoothing with a thin metal spatula until about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. Add food coloring, drop by drop, over melted baking pieces. Use a wooden skewer to swirl color through baking pieces.

  6. Sprinkle with candies, pressing them lightly with a spatula.

  7. Place baking sheet in refrigerator about 10 minutes to set the baking pieces.

  8. When ready to serve, break into irregular pieces.

  9. Store, covered, at cool room temperature or in refrigerator up to 5 days.
