Italian Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 (28oz.) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 3 or 4 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 med. onion, sliced
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven; saute onion. When the onion is soft, add garlic. Cook until slightly browned. Pour in tomatoes. Add basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste; then pinch of sugar. Simmer sauce for 3 hours approximately. Add Italian meatballs or browned sausages during the last hour of cooking the sauce.
