Mom’s Cherry Nut Torte

Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 slightly beaten egg
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1/4 t. cream of tartar
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 c. chopped nuts
  • 3/4 c. sugar

Directions

  1. Sift flour and 1 tsp. salt, but in butter.

  2. Add eggs, stir until soft dough in formed.

  3. Pat into bottom of pan (little greased)

  4. Bake @ 425 for 20 mins.

  5. Cool slightly

  6. Reduce oven to 350

  7. Pour cherry filling over crust.

  8. Beat egg whites, vanilla and cream of tartar, dash of salt, until soft peaks form.

  9. Gradually add in sugar until still peaks form.

  10. Spread on top of cherry filling.

  11. Seal edges

  12. Put nuts on top

  13. Bake at 350 for 15-20 mins or until lightly browned.
