Nana’s Polish Sausage and Sauerkraut

Ingredients

  • 2 Pkgs Kielbasa
  • 2 T Butter
  • 3 tsp Sugar
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 C sauerkraut, drained
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and drained
  • 1 small can of sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 3 T Parsley (garnish)

Directions

  1. Cook bacon and save bacon drippings

  2. Butterfly sausage and brown both sides in skillet with bacon drippings.

  3. Put sausage in 400 degree oven 6-10 minutes

  4. In large skillet over medium heat brown sugar and butter. Add onion to carmalize. Stir in sauerkraut. Cook 5-6 minutes. Add garlic, thyme, sage, bacon and mushrooms. Add sausage. Cook 2-4 minutes

  5. Place in slow cooker on low to keep warm
