Thovve Dhal

Ingredients

  • Moong dhal, split - 1cup
  • mustard seeds - 2tsp
  • hingu - 1/4 tsp
  • turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • garlic cloves - 1-2
  • yellow onion, finely chopped - 1/4 of the onion
  • tomato, medium size, chopped
  • whole cari / carbesapu leaves - 3/4 sprig (optional)
  • spinach leaves - handful (optional)
  • cilantro for garnish

Directions

  1. cook the moong dhal in water to cover, and salt

  2. separately, make the ogarne as follows

  3. bring the mustard seeds and cumin seeds to a crackle, then add the hingu, turmeric

  4. add also the garlic cloves, onion, tomato, cari leaves, spinach

  5. Add this ogarne mixture to the cooked dhal

  6. can add heated water to thin, if too thick

  7. garnish with cilantro
