Potato Palia

Ingredients

  • medium red potatoes - 6, boiled to fork tender
  • canola oil - 2 TBSP
  • 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • channa dhal - 1 tsp
  • onion, medium size - 1, diced
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • coriander/cilantro - chopped, 2TBSP
  • cari leaves - 1 sprig
  • green chili - cut lengthwise in quarters (optional)

Directions

  1. after potatoes have cooled, peel and hand mash to preferred consistency

  2. cracke the black mustard seeds in the canola oil

  3. add channa dhal, cari leaves, onion, turmeric, onion, and cilantro (can add the green chili here if desired)

  4. sautee until onions are clear

  5. remove from heat, and mix in the potatoes

  6. salt to taste
