Categories: bread, german, savory

Ingredients

  • 8-1/3 cups flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • oil
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • bacon bits, real or soy
  • 1 onion
  • 1 8-oz container whipping cream
  • 1 8-oz container fat-free sour cream
  • salt
  • pepper

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 2 cups lukewarm water.

  2. Add salt and two splashes of oil.

  3. Mix in flour and knead until dough is well-developed.

  4. Let dough rise until double.

  5. Prepare sauce by mixing together cream and sour cream, and adding salt and pepper to taste. Place in refrigerator until needed.

  6. Cut the onion into very thin rings, and then chop rings in half. Set aside until needed.

  7. Punch down dough and divide into several sections.

  8. Place each section in a greased cookie sheet and roll out very thinly (supposedly should be thin enough to read a newspaper through).

  9. Spread dough with sauce and sprinkle with onions and bacon bits.

  10. Bake at 350°F until crust is golden brown.

  11. Can be eaten warm or cold.
