White Bread

Serves 36 people

Ingredients

  • 4.5 cups hot water
  • .25 cup sugar
  • 2.5 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 12 cups flour

Directions

  1. Put hot water into large mixing bowl.

  2. Mix in sugar, shortening, and salt.

  3. Let cool until luke warm.

  4. Add yeast.

  5. Mix until dissolved.

  6. Add 6 cups flour and mix.

  7. Add more flour until dough is not sticky but elastic (approximately 6 cups).

  8. Knead for 10 minutes.

  9. Let rise until double.

  10. Punch down and put into greased loaf pans.

  11. Let rise until double again.

  12. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 35 minutes until crust is golden brown.
