Bread Pudding (Small Recipe)

Test for doneness by inserting a knife. If knife comes out clean pudding is done.

Serves 6 people

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried french bread cubes
  • 4 cups scalded milk (2% or whole)
  • 4 tablespoons butter/margerine
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cups raisins
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  1. Break or cut up bread allow to dry thoroughly.

  2. Pour milk into good sized cooking pan. Allow to heat until milk bubbles around sides and almost to boiling point. DO NOT BOIL.

  3. Set pan off heat.

  4. Add dry bread cubes, butter and sugar. Let set 5 minutes.

  5. Stir a bit.

  6. Add 1 cup warm milk slowly to beaten eggs. Stir as you add.

  7. Then add milk and eggs to remaining milk and sugar. Add vanilla, salt, and raisins.

  8. Grease a casserole dish that will hold all the mil and egg mixtures. Pour or ladel ingredients into greased dish.

  9. Set casserole dish into a cake pan and add enough hot water around the casserole dish to make an inch or two deep.

  10. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour.

  11. About halfway through carefully stir, and sprinkle with cinnamon.
