Old Time Fudge

Serves 24 people

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 1 oz squares unsweetened chocolate
  • Dash of salt
  • 2 teaspoons cornsyrup
  • 3 tablespoons butter/margerine
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Butter sides of heavy 3 quart saucepan.

  2. Combine sugar, milk, chocolate, salt, and corn syrup.

  3. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves, chocolate melts, and mixture comes to a boil.

  4. Then cook to 225 degrees, stirring only if necessary.

  5. Immediately remove from heat add butter and cool to luke warm (112 degrees) without stirring.

  6. Add vanilla.

  7. Beat vigorously until fudge becomes very thick and starts to lose its gloss.

  8. Quicly spread in buttered shallow pan or small platter.

  9. Score in squares while warm, and if desired top with walnuts.

  10. Cut when firm.
