Ingredients

  • 1 tsp caraway seeds 1 tbsp herbs de provence (or italian seasoning)
  • 2 tsp pepper 4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan 2 eggs
  • 4 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 lbs ground meat of your choice - I prefer 1 lb ground beef and 1 lb pork sausage
  • 3 Roma tomatoes (or heirloom if in season)
  • 2 cup shredded mozzarella and 1/2 cup grated parmesan
  • Bunch fresh basil leaves (8-10)
  • Instructions

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. You\’re about to get your hands all gooey. So please lay out all of your ingredients separately for ease of use… I\’d put all of the seasonings in one ramekan. Then, in your mixing bowl, combine parmesan, garlic, meat, and eggs mixing thoroughly. Add your seasonings and mix those through as well. Take out your meat from the bowl and press into your cookie sheet flat and even throughout.

  3. Slice your tomatoes 1/4 inch thick and lay evenly on top of the meat. Distribute your basil and sprinkle the top with your cheeses and some extra S&P.

  4. 4.Bake for 18-20 minutes. If your cheese isn\’t brown and bubbly (it should be but just in case…), set your oven on broil and watch for the brown transformation for 1-2 minutes.
