Devils Food Chocolate Layer Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup low fat buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. eheat oven to 350.

  2. Coat 2 round 8 inch no stick pans with no stick spray.

  3. Medium bowl-combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Small bowl-combine buttermilk, oil, applesauce, and vanilla.

  5. Stir the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture and mix until smooth.

  6. Spoon batter evenly into prepared pans.

  7. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

  8. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then invert and remove pans. Cool the cakes completely.

  9. Can also bake in a rectangular 9×12×2 pan for 20 minutes.
