they will become hard after baking, but you can soften them up by putting a piece of bread into the container with them.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Stir in raisins and nuts.
  5. Drop dough by heaping teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet and bake 10 minutes.
