Honey-Mango Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 3-inch cinnamon stick
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 1/8 tsp. celery seeds
  • 2 whole allspice
  • 1 1/3 cups chopped mango
  • 1/2 cup reduced-sugar ketchup
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp. minced celery
  • 3 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • Dash cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine vinegar, cinnamon, cloves, celery seeds, and allspice. Bring to boiling, Remove from heat. Let stand 15 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve; discard solids.
  2. In the saucepan, combine vinegar mixture, mango, ketchup, onion, celery, honey, molasses, dry mustard, and cayenne. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool slightly, mash with a potato masher. Stir in 1/4 cup water. Gently stir in meatballs and heat through.
