Edible Cookie Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup blanched, slivered almonds, finely ground
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. (1/2 stick) butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • assorted cookies

Directions

  1. Cover the outside of a loaf pan with foil. Spray with vegetable cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, coca powder, almonds and salt, in a large bowl, using an electric mixer set on medium, beat butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture; beat until dough forms, about 2minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll dough out to 1/8-inch thickness. Using a 1 1/2 inch cookie cutter with scalloped edges, cut out shapes.
  4. Cover pan bottom with cutouts, overlapping and pressing them slightly.
  5. Bake cookie bowl until edges are firm, about 15 minutes. Transfer pan to a wire rack and cool completely.
  6. To remove the cookie owl, carefully lift it off the foil-lined loaf pan. Remove foil.
  7. Arrange other cookies in the cookie bowl. Cover loosely with plastic wrap until ready to serve of give as gift.
  8. Make a round cookie bowl by overlapping and molding the cookie dough disks over a round bowl. use different shaped oven-proof bowls to make a variety of cookie bowls.

  9. make smaller bowls to serve ice cream, pudding, or as a candy bowl with M&M’s or other small candies.

  10. Tip: when preparing the dough, make sure the butter is completely softened so the dough will reach the proper consistency.
