Mum’s Tan Fingers

A childhood favourite, which my children and grandboys love today

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Serves 20 people

Ingredients

  • Base:
  • 175 gr butter, softened
  • 100 gr sugar
  • 300 gr plain flour
  • 1/2 t vanilla essence
  • Filling:
  • 90 gr butter
  • 2 T golden syrup
  • 300 gr sweetened condensed milk (3/4 of tin)

Directions

  1. For base: Cream butter, sugar and vanilla essence.

  2. Add flour, and combine until incorporated.

  3. Spread 2/3 of mixture into paper-lined slice tin.

  4. For filling: Place butter, syrup and condensed milk into saucepan, warm and mix together.

  5. Spread topping onto uncooked base in tin.

  6. Crumble rest of base mixture over topping

  7. Bake at 180oc approximately 30 minutes.

  8. Cool in tin for 10 minutes, then cut into fingers or squares while still warm.
