Apple Butter

Ingredients

  • 12 to 13 lbs. apples
  • 5 lbs. sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon candies

Directions

  1. Core and slice apples (do not peel).
  2. Place apples in a large kettle with a small amount of water; cook until soft. Press apples through a sieve.
  3. Combine apples, sugar and vinegar in a large, deep roasting pan; mix well. Bake at 325 degrees for 5 hours, stirring occasionally. Add cinnamon candies, stirring well. Cook about 1 additional hour or until thickened.
  4. makes 15 cups
