Vanilla Charlotte

Ingredients

  • 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
  • 1/2 cup cold milk
  • 1 cup hot milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped or 2/3 cup thoroughly chilled evaporated milk, whipped

Directions

  1. Add gelatin to cold milk and allow to stand 5 minutes. Add hot milk and salt and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Chill until mixture is slightly thicker than the consistency of unbeaten egg whites. Stir in vanilla. Fold into whipped cream, or whipped evaporated milk. Turn into large or individual molds and chill until firm. Unmold and serve with fruit or chocolate sauce.
