Beer Sno- Cones

Ingredients

  • 2 (12 oz.) bottles wheat beer, chilled
  • Blueberry-Lime Syrup:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • zest and juice of 2 limes
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • orange Syrup:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 1 1/4 cups orange juice

Directions

  1. Pour beer into an 8-or 9-inch square, glass baking dish. freeze 45 minutes to 1 hour. When ice crystals begin to form around the edges of the dish stir mixture with fork. Freeze about 3 hours longer, stirring every 45 minutes, until completely frozen. Should be of granita texture.
  2. To serve, scoop into snow cone paper or lowball cocktail glasses. Drizzle with desired syrup.
  3. Blueberry-Lime Syrup: In a 1 quart saucepan, mix sugar and water. Add the lime zest and juice and blueberries. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, using the back of a spoon, mash some of the berries to release juice and color; set aside 1 hour to cool. Strain syrup into glass jar, discard solids

  4. Cover jar and refrigerate until needed.

  6. Orange Syrup:

  7. Combine sugar, zest of orange and orange juice in a 1-quart saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  8. Remove from heat, set aside 1 hour to cool. Strain syrup into glass jar, discard solids. Cover jar and refrigerate until needed.
  9. makes 1 1/2 cups
