Herbed Soy Snacks

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. dry roasted soybeans (2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/8 to 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread roasted soybeans in an even layer in a 15 × 10 x1-inch baking pan. Combine thyme, garlic salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle the soybeans with the thyme mixture. Bake for 5 minutes or just until heated through, shaking pan once. Cool completely. Store up to 1 week at room temperature in an airtight container.
  2. Sweet Chili Soy Snacks: Prepare Herbed Soy Snacks as directed, omitting thyme and pepper, and increasing the garlic salt to 1/2 tsp. of chili powder. Sprinkle mixture over soybeans before baking.

  3. Sesame-Ginger Soy Snacks: prepare Herbed Soy Snaks as directed, omitting the thyme, garlic salt, and pepper. Combine 2 tsp. toasted sesame oil, 3/4 tsp. ground ginger, and 1/2 tsp. onion salt; sprinkle over soybeans before baking.

  4. Indian-Spiced Soy Snacks: Prepare Herbed Soy Snacks as directed, omitting thyme and garlic salt. Combine 1/2 tsp. garam masala and 1/4 tsp. salt with the pepper; sprinkle over soybean mixture before baking.
