Deep-Dish Sausage Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 16 oz loaf frozen white bread dough, thawed
  • 8 oz Italian sausage
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 3-4 Roma tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 1/3 cup short, thin green sweet pepper strips
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan

Directions

  1. For crust, with oiled fingers stretch and pat thawed dough in the bottom of a lightly greased 13×9×2-inch baking pan. Brush dough with remaining oil. Cover and let rise in a warm place until nearly doubled (30-45 minutes). Bake at 425 for 10 minutes or until crust is light brown.

  2. Meanwhile, remove casings from sausage, if present. In a skillet cook sausage until no longer pink, breaking up the sausage. Cook onion and sweet pepper strips with sausage until vegetables are desired doneness. Drain off fat. Remove crust from oven. If necessary, carefully push down the bubble of dough in the center of pan with a spatula. Sprinkle with mozzarella. Top with sausage, tomatoes, onion and sweet pepper strips. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan.

  3. Return pizza to oven and bake 15-20 minutes more or until crust is golden and topping is bubbly.
