Patty Melt

(from castro15’s recipe box)

Categories: Healthy

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground sirloin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 large red onion, diced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices rye bread, toasted

Directions

  1. Season the meat with the salt and pepper and form into 4 large, thin patties. Heat the oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and scatter the onion around the burgers. Stir the onion from time to time to keep it from burning.

  2. Cook the burgers for 3-4 minutes, then flip and immediately cover each with a slice of Swiss. Continue cooking until the burgers are cooked all the way through, about another 3 minutes. Remove, place on top of the toasted rye, cover with the sauteed onions, and top with other slice of rye.
