Great-Grandma Turano’s Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. fennel seeds
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • bottled (or homemade) barbecue sauce

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients; mixing together well. Shape into 37 (1 1/2-inch) balls. Freeze up to 1 month. When ready to use, let stand at room temperature 10 minutes. Thread meatballs 1/8 inch apart onto 4 (10-inch) metal skewers. Grill, covered with grill lid, at 350 to 400 degrees
  2. (medium-high) heat 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until centers are no longer pink, basting with bottled barbecue sauce during last 3 minutes. Serve on skewers or buns.
