American Gingerbread

This is one of the older recipes I have.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cups shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup light molasses
  • 1/2 cup hottest tap water

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, soda , ginger, cinnamon and salt.
  2. Stir remaining ingredients together in another bowl, until well combined; then add to dry mixture. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed of mixer until well blended. Pour batter into greased 9-inch tube or Bundt pan.
  3. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake cake for 45 to 50 minutes until cake springs back when pressed lightly.
