These cookies were first made by Ann Page, a well-known cook who used to stamp her initials A.P. on the cookies, thus giving them their name.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup dairy sour cream

Directions

  1. Cream butter or margarine and sugar until light and fluffy in a medium-size bowl. Add eggs and beat in until thoroughly blended.
  2. Sift flour with baking soda and salt. Stir into batter gradually, alternating with sour cream and stirring well after each addition.
  3. Drop from a teaspoon onto a buttered cookie sheet.
  4. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for about 10 minutes, or until cookies are crisp and sand-colored. Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet.
