Apple-Prune Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 quart small soft-bread cubes
  • 1 cup pitted prunes
  • 6 cooling apples, peeled and cut in eighths
  • Juice of 1 lemon (if apples are not tart)

Directions

  1. Melt butter, stir in poultry seasoning and salt, then mix with bread cubes. Pour hot water over prunes, let stand about 10 minutes, then cut in halves. Put apples and prunes in shallow 2-quart baking dish and pour lemon juice, if used, over top. Top with bread cubes mixture. cover with lid or foil and bake in preheated 325 degree oven with crown roast 45 minutes, or until apples are just tender. Uncover and bake a few minutes longer, or until bread is crisp.
