Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 1 cup split peas
  • 1 cup barley
  • 1 can 50% less sodium kidney bean (drained)
  • 1 can butter beans (drained) and rinsed
  • 6 cups of water
  • zucchini

Directions

  1. I mix it up real good and divide evenly into 3 or 4, (1 ½ pounds each sections), and bag. I put the bags in the freezer. I next time I make dog food I just have to add 1 bag of the thawed rice mix from the freezer to the meat.

  2. In a large saucepan, I put a can of beef or chicken broth (low sodium broth), depending on what meat is used. I Use the low sodium broth (Swanson Natural Goodness is lower sodium broth)

  3. Ground turkey for $5.97 (sale) for 3 pounds. I cut it in half so it’s 1 1/2 pounds per recipe. If you want beef 1 1/2 pounds of good burger will work I use 93 % fat free..

  4. When I have the broth hot, I add the turkey or beef and let it cook till no more red is showing.

  5. I add 1 bag of the rice mix I made. Let it simmer, stirring a few times.

  6. If there is lots of juice left, in the pan, I sometimes add oatmeal (one or two-1 hand full) and stir. I have also used whole grain egg noodles.
