Apple Pie Down Under

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plus 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves, ground
  • 1 tsp. lemon zest, grated
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 8 tart apples peeled nd thinly sliced
  • 1 prepared 9-inch pie crust, uncooked
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup margarine, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together 3 tablespoons of flour, 1 cup sugar, cinnamon, cloves, lemon zest and 1/8 tsp. salt. Toss apples in mixture. Arrange apples in pie pan on crust.

  3. Combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/8 tsp. salt, cheese and margarine. Sprinkle lightly over the apples.

  4. Bake for 35 minutes or until topping and crust are golden brown.
