Spice Cake and Frosting/ Aunt Grace

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 all purpose flour
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 3/4 t baking soda
  • 3/4 t cinnamon
  • 3/4 C Crisco solid
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 C white sugar
  • 3/4 t salt
  • 3/4 t cloves
  • 3/4 C brown sugar
  • 1 C milk with 1 T vinegar
  • Frosting; Need to double frosting for whole cake
  • 1/2 C water
  • 2 1/2 T flour
  • 1/2 C Crisco solid
  • 1/2 C confectioner sugar
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • Additional 2 C confectioner sugar
  • 1/2 C chopped pecans

Directions

  1. Cake:

  2. Sift dry ingredients, add brown sugar, Crisco, milk and beat 2 min. Add eggs and beat another 2 min

  3. Pour into 2-8 inch dusted and floured cake pans

  4. Bake 350 deg for 25 min and check

  5. Cool

  6. Frosting;

  7. Blend water to and flour and cook until thickens. Cool until luke warm)

  8. Cream Crisco with the 1/2 C conf sugar and add flour/water paste and beat until fluffy.

  9. Add remaining conf sugar

  10. Fold in vanilla and nuts
