Apple Butter Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 cup sour milk

Directions

  1. Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time; beat until light and fluffy. Stir in 1 cup apple butter.

  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, alternately with sour milk.

  3. Turn into 2 greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30- 35 minutes. Cool thoroughly.

  4. Spread bottom layer of cake with 1/4 cup of remaining apple butter. Top with frosting. cover with top cake layer. Frost top and sides with any marshmallow frosting. Swirl remaining apple butter on top for marbled effect.
