Ingredients

  • Homemade BBQ Sauce:
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp. molasses
  • 2 tsp liquid hickory smoke
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 lbs. chicken breasts, trimmed
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • 3/4 cup Homemade BBQ

Directions

  1. Homemade BBQ Sauce:

  2. In a large saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, vinegar, tomato paste, honey, molasses, liquid smoke, salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cinnamon, and chili powder. Bring to a simmer over low heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, 15-20 minutes. The sauce will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 month.

  3. Season the chicken with the salt, garlic powder, and pepper to taste. Place it in slow cooker and pour the BBQ sauce over the chicken.

  4. Cover and cook on LOW 6 hours or until chicken is falling apart. Shred the chicken with 2 forks and serve.
