Aunt T’s Toffee

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. butter (4 sticks)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp. white corn syrup
  • 2 cup crushed pecans (any nuts will work)
  • 1 large, 8 oz. Hershey Bar

Directions

  1. In a large pot, melt butter and sugar together. Add corn syrup and water. You must stir this mixture continuously so it does not burn.

  2. Continue to cook and stir until it reaches a golden yellow color. Then add one cup of the crushed nuts. r (10 to 15 minutes).

  3. When it becomes a coffee color pour mixture onto a cookie sheet with a lip. Be careful, pan will be very hot! Spread evenly on sheet. Break apart chocolate bar and lay pieces on top of toffee mixture.

  4. Allow to melt slightly then spread chocolate with spatula over toffee. Sprinkle remaining nuts over chocolate. Allow to cool completely. Then place in refrigerator for 1 hour. Toffee should be solid and easily removed from pan to be cut.
