Baked Alaska

Serves 10 people

Ingredients

  • 1 quart ice cream, any flavor
  • 1 9 inch round cake or Bittersweet Brownie recipe, baked
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

Directions

  1. On cookie sheet place cake or brownie; mound with ice cream. Cover, and freeze for several hours prior to serving.

  2. Just before serving, preheat oven to 500 degrees. Assemble mixer. In small mixing bowl beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add cream of tartar and sugar. Beat until stiff an glossy.

  3. Remove cake base from freezer and completely frost with meringue, making sure no air holes exist between pan and meringue.

  4. Bake 3 to 5 minutes or until lightly browned.
