Categories: Dressing/Sauces

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups pitted fresh or thawed frozen cherries
  • 1 cup minced yellow onion
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 12 oz. bottle chili sauce
  • 1 1/2 cup cherry cola
  • 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire
  • 1 dash liquid smoke

Directions

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add cherries, onion, and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, until cherries and vegetables are tender. Mash cherries using the back of a spoon. Stir in chili sauce, cola, vinegar, Worcestershire, and liquid smoke, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 15 minutes. Let cool to room temp before using, or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
