Browned- Butter Blondies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped toasted pecans (optional)
  • 2/3 cup almond toffee bits (optional)
  • Caramel-flavor ice cream topping (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a 13 × 9-inch baking pan with foil, extending the foil over edges of pan. Grease foil.

  2. In a small saucepan melt butter over medium heat until foamy. When foaming subsides, swirl pan constantly over medium heat until butter is golden brown and fragrant. Immediately remove from heat. In a bowl stir together flour , baking powder, salt and baking soda.

  3. In a large mixing bowl combine the browned butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat with mixer on medium until thick and smooth. Add flour mixture, one-third at a time, beating on low after each addition just until combined. Batter will be very thick. if desired, stir in pecans. Spread batter in prepared baking pan. if desired, sprinkle with toffee bits.

  4. Bake 35 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cut into bars. if desired, drizzle bars with caramel-flavor ice cream topping and sprinkle with additional chopped pecans and almond toffee bits.
