Bavarian Apple Torte

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples (about 4 medium)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 sliced almonds

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

  2. Beat butter, the 1/3 cup sugar and the 1/4 tsp. vanilla in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until well blended. Slowly stir in flour until mixture forms a soft dough. Press dough into bottom and about 1 1/2 inches up the side of an ungreased 9-inch springform pan.

  3. Combine apples, cinnamon and remaining sugar in a large bowl. Layer evenly over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle almonds over top.

  4. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Lower heat to 400 degrees and bake 25 minutes longer. Cool in pan on wire rack before removing side of pan. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
