Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 3 C sifted flour
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 1/2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 C soft butter
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 3 T cream
  • 1 t vanilla

Directions

  1. Oven 400 degrees.

  2. Mix flour with sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in butter, using an electric mixer or pastry blender, until particles are fine. Add egg, cream and vanilla. Blend thoroughly. If desired, chill dough for easier handling.

  3. Roll our on floured surface, one-third at a time, to 1/8 " thickness. Sprinkle with sugar; cut into desired shaped. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 Degrees for 5 to 8 minutes, until golden.
  4. TIP: 1/2 C shortening can be used for 1/2 C butter.
