Pan Seared Steaks with Balsamic Red Onions and Roasted Garlic and Porcini Mushroom Goat Cheese Butter

Ingredients

  • For the balsamic onions:
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 splash Worcestershire sauce
  • For the pan seared steaks:
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 (6 ounce) steaks (strip loin, rib eye, prime rib, etc)
  • Montreal steak seasoning (or salt and pepper) to taste
  • 2 tablespoons roasted garlic and porcini mushroom goat cheese butter (recipe)

Directions

  1. or the sauteed mushrooms:
  2. Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed pan over medium-high heat, add the onions and cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are tender and start to caramelize, about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the vinegar and cook until the vinegar mostly cooks off, about a minute.
  4. For the pan seared steaks:
  5. Wipe the pan clean, heat the oil over medium-high heat, add the steaks, seasoned to taste, and sear until cooked to the desired level of doneness, about 2-4 minutes per side for medium.
  6. Serve topped with the onions and melting roasted garlic and porcini mushroom goat cheese butter!
  7. Option: Add 2 cloves garlic (chopped) and 1/2 teaspoon chopped thyme to the onions before adding the balsamic vinegar!
