Ingredients

  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 3 eggs, large
  • 2 tablespoons honey, warmed 20 seconds in microwave
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices bread, 1/2-inch thick
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • maple syrup
  • whipped cream
  • fruit

Directions

  1. In medium size mixing bowl, whisk together: half-and-half, eggs, honey, & salt. (You may do this the night before.)

  2. When ready to cook, pour custard mixture into a pie pan and set aside.

  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  4. Place cooling rack on top of foil in sheet pan.

  5. Dip bread into mixture, allow to soak for 30 seconds on each side, and then remove to cooling rack and allow to sit 1-2 minutes.

  6. Over medium-low heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a 10-inch nonstick saute pan.

  7. Place 2 slices of bread at a time into the pan and cook until golden brown, approx. 2-3 minutes per side.

  8. Remove from pan and place on rack in oven for 5 minutes.

  9. Repeat with remaining slices.

  10. Serve immediately with maple syrup, whipped cream or fruit.
