Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, halved crosswise
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 tbsp. whiskey (such as Jack Daniel's)
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire
  • 1 tbsp. cola
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices cheddar or Applewood-smoked cheddar cheese
  • 4 pretzel buns, split and toasted
  • Assorted toppings such as ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato and/or onion

Directions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat.

  2. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned and crisp, about 10 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain.

  3. Mix together beef, whiskey, Worcestershire, cola, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper in a bowl. Divide mixture into 4 portions; shape each into a 1-inch-thick patty. Make an indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb.

  4. Lightly oil grill grate. Add patties; grill, covered 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked to your liking. Top each patty with a cheese slice the last minute of grilling. Top each patty with 2 bacon-slice halves. Serve on buns with toppings.
