Five-Spice Beef Stir-Fry

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef top round, thinly sliced against grain into strips and cut crosswise in half
  • 3 tbsp. canola oil
  • 2 cups snow peas
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. finely chopped peeled fresh ginger
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tbsp. water
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Directions

  1. In a wok or large skillet, stir-fry beef in oil over high heat until browned, 2 minutes. Add peas, bell pepper, scallions, ginger, garlic and spice powder; stir-fry or 3 minutes. Add soy sauce, vinegar and cornstarch; stir until saucy, about 1 minute. Serve over rice.
