Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Dijon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Dash Worcestershire
  • Pinch cayenne pepper
  • 6 burger buns
  • Pickle slices

Directions

  1. Add beef and onion to a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring to break up lumps, until beef is browned, about 10 minutes.

  2. Add green pepper and garlic; cook, stirring, until softened, 2 to 3 minutes. Add 1 cup water and bring to a boil, scraping up browned bits from bottom of skillet. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Dijon, salt, black pepper and Worcestershire. Add remaining 1 cup water and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and continue simmering, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until liquid has evaporated and mixture thickens, about 40 minutes.

  3. Stir in cayenne. Serve on buns with pickle slices.
