Freezer-to-oven Mini Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

  • 6 mozzarella cheese sticks, cut in thirds crosswise
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano leaves
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Cooking spray
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce

Directions

  1. Place the cheese stick pieces in a shallow pan, sprinkle with flour, and toss to coat. Pour the buttermilk in a small bowl. Combine the breadcrumbs, oregano, garlic powder, and paprika in another shallow pan.

  2. Working with one at a time, dip cheese stick pieces into the buttermilk and coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Place in a single layer on a large plate. Freeze until firm.

  3. eheat oven to 400.

  4. Coat a foil-lined baking sheet with cooking spray. Arrange the frozen cheese stick pieces in a single layer, being careful not to touch each other. Bake 5 minutes, turn, and bake 4 to 5 minutes or until crisp, being careful not to melt.

  5. Serve as is or with tomato sauce for dipping.
