Categories: Sides

Ingredients

  • 1 slice bread, torn into several pieces
  • 1 oz. grated Parmesan
  • 12 oz. red potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup thinly sliced onions
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp margarine

Directions

  1. eheat the oven to 325.

  2. Place the torn bread in a food processor or blender and process until a crumb texture is achieved. Place in a small bowl with the cheese, toss until well blended and set aside.

  3. Layer half of the potatoes in the bottom of a 9-inch deep-dish pie pan. Place the onions evenly over the potatoes and arrange the remaining potatoes over all.

  4. In a small saucepan, combine the milk, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and pour evenly over all. Place the margarine in the saucepan and stir until melted. Drizzle evenly over all. Cover and bake 30 minutes.

  5. Remove the cover and sprinkle the reserved bread crumb mixture evenly over all. Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Let stand 5 minutes to thicken slightly and allow flavors to blend.
