Spiced Beer Fondue

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 8 oz. can ale or lager
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 4 oz. shredded smoked gouda
  • 2 tsp coarse grain mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground red pepper
  • Dash ground nutmeg
  • Apple slices and cooked potato wedges, for serving

Directions

  1. Melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat. Sprinkle with flour; whisk until smooth. Stir in beer and half-and-half; bring to a boil. Cook and stir 2 minutes. Stir in cheese, mustard, Worcestershire, salt and ground red pepper; cook and stir until cheese is melted.

  2. Coat inside of slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Fill with warm fondue. Sprinkle with nutmeg and serve with apples and potatoes.
