Over-the-Top Caramel Apples

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 apples
  • Toppings:
  • Diced crystallized ginger+toasted sesame seeds
  • Crushed cookies+a drizzle of melted white chocolate
  • Chopped walnuts+dried cranberries
  • Toasted shredded coconut+chopped macadamia nuts
  • Crushed cheese crackers
  • Salted peanuts+caramel popcorn

Directions

  1. Cook sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat, swirling the pan but not stirring, until caramel-colored. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream, vanilla and salt. Transfer to a 4-cup liquid measuring cup; cool slightly. Insert sticks into the stem ends of apples. Dip into the caramel, letting the excess drip off. Roll in toppings, then let cool on a parchment-lined baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
