  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm milk, scalded then cooled
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling dough
  • Canola oil, for deep frying

  5. a deep fryer, preheat oil to 350.

  6. Working in batches, carefully drop doughnuts into the deep fryer. Once floating, flip. Cook for about 1 minute per side or until lightly brown. Gently scoop out using a slotted spoon and transfer onto a plate lined with paper towels.

  7. Mix all the glaze ingredients, except water, in a bowl until smooth and well blended. Gradually add water, about 1 tbsp at a time. Whisk until smooth.

  8. Dip doughnuts in glaze. Serve.
